One of these broke within 24 hrs. I found this dissapointing. Considering that they are aimed at children, I would have hoped that it would withstand the rougher of my two children for just a little bit longer than a day. On the other hand they are easy to use and do encourage children to brush their teeth for the correct amount of time.
The time taken for the sand to fall through is not two minutes as I would have expected given that is the recommended time for brushing your teeth. I think that this is due to the tube being at an angle rather than completely vertical.
