If there’s one thing you can always guarantee about British weather, it’s its unpredictability! Settle down for a cosy morning inside and sun will immediately stream through the windows, prepare to go to the beach and rain is sure to start bucketing down. However, all is not lost if your plans go awry, as there is always one dependable activity to turn to, and that’s crafting of course! No matter what the weather, there will always be a creative project to embark on. Read on to find our suggestions.
Rainy day play
We’re certainly no strangers to the heavens opening in this country, but whether it’s a touch of drizzle or a complete downpour, there’s no need to let wet weather dampen your day. There are so many creative activities that can be completed at home, the list is practically never-ending. Here are just a few of our favourites.

Baking
There’s nothing quite like the smell of fresh, homemade cakes wafting out of the oven, so if dismal days are leaving you down in the dumps, baking is sure to lift everyone’s spirits. Children will love to get involved in the process with their very own Cooking Sets and with items like our Cookie Cutter Cube everyone will be able to put their own creative stamp on their baking too. Plus the results are sure to be rewarding!

Marbling
Everyone has fond memories of making marbled works of art at school and now you can recreate this activity for children at home. All you’ll need is a big tub of water and Marbling Ink plus whatever you want to add a marbled design to. From notebooks to polystyrene shapes, you can create stunning effects every time and no two pieces will ever be the same. Simply squeeze a few drops of ink into the water, gently swirl the colours to create a pattern then carefully dip your item onto the surface. Once dry you’ll be able to turn your designs into all manner of things.

Beadcraft
Playing with beads is so therapeutic, whether it’s as simple as sorting colours into piles or stringing shapes onto cord or elastic to make pretty jewellery. We have a brilliant selection of colourful beads that children will love to craft with and even adults too. Use the time indoors to create personalised and made to measure jewellery which will make perfect inexpensive gifts, and of course, trinkets to keep for yourself too.
Fun in the sun
When the sun is finally shining, the best way to make the most of the weather is definitely through outdoorsy activities – with a crafty feel of course! Read our suggestions to find out how you can enjoy the sunshine in a creative way.

Painting
All children love to get messy, but this isn’t always conducive to a tidy household so when the skies are blue, head straight to the garden with huge sheets of paper and a collection of Paints. Little ones are sure to enjoy the freedom of not having to worry about getting splatters on the carpet and they’ll be inspired by the nature around them too.

Summer Sports
It’s amazing just how much energy children have, and when it’s sunny outdoors, why not help them let off steam creatively by organising some sports themed competitions and races? The winners will love to receive a crafty prize afterwards that they can decorate themselves. Our Design Your Own Medal Kits are perfect and can be accessorised with everything from sparkly sequins to bright stickers. Little ones will also love our Make Your Own Foam Trophy Kits, they’re sure to feel like champions holding their very own winning cups.

Gliders
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s a glider! Fine weather is the perfect opportunity to take to the skies in the form of our range of design your own gliders. From Bird to Insect themes we stock a great selection. Simply have fun colouring in your glider of choice then let it go and have watch as it swoops around. There could even be races to see whose aircraft can travel the farthest, and outdoors, there’s no risk of any glider-related breakages too!
